Letter from Mrs. Smith regarding Tobacco-Free School Policy Dear Parents and Guardians: In an effort to allow all students, staff and community members the opportunity to have a tobacco free learning environment, Jackson County Public Schools approved a comprehensive tobacco-free school policy as outlined in House Bill 142. We have a district wide tobacco free policy which includes every school campus as well as athletic facilities. This is enforced at all times including school events and events after regular school hours, such as sporting events, etc. As a district, we appreciate your support implementing the policy. We have implemented this policy in an effort to create a healthy and positive learning environment, prevent tobacco use, and provide positive role modeling for students. Schools are a place where children develop lifelong behaviors, and we are committed to ensuring tobacco use in any form is not among those behaviors. We have installed signs about the policy throughout the school campus. We will also make regular announcements at school events to remind students and visitors of the policy and how it prohibits use of tobacco products, alternative nicotine products, or vapor at these events or on school property. There are many helpful resources for youth or adults in our community who use tobacco products and want to quit. Please visit My Life My Quit (https://ky.mylifemyquit.org/en-us/resources/parents-guardians/) to learn more about free quit support services available for youth and adults. The updated policy, link to the updated Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline as well as links to educational resources can be found on our Safe Schools Website at https://bit.ly/JCPSSafeSchools Thank you again for your continued support and we look forward to a great year!

Opening Day
In order to improve the safety of our Tigers, we will be doing our drop-off and dismissal differently at Sand Gap Elementary. The diagrams that are attached to this sheet should help with understanding. Morning Drop-Off for Tigers Parent drop off will continue to be at the end of the school building facing 421. There will continue to be two lanes that exit over the hill and it will continue to start at 7:15 and end at 7:45. The only change will be that parents need to enter campus using Powell Road from S-Tree Tower Road. Please yield to all buses coming up hill drive from 421 and do not block the intersection. Drive across the intersection to the double drop-off line as space allows. Morning Drop-Off for JCMS/JCHS Students Though we would prefer for JCHS and JCMS to ride the bus from their home, we understand that there are drop-offs occurring. If you are dropping off a JCHS or JCMS student at Sand Gap School to catch a bus, please turn onto hill drive from 421. Stay to the right and turn onto the lower parking lot. BJ will drop off his Tigers at 7:00 and pull down to the lower parking lot to load JCMS and JCHS students. We expect these students to stay in their car until BJ loads them on his bus. He will load JCMS and JCHS students from 7:05-7:20. BJ is the only driver that is transporting JCMS or JCHS drop-off students. These drop-offs should not be at the upper SGS parking lot for any reason. What if you have a JCMS/JCHS drop-off AND a Tiger to drop off? After unloading your JCMS/JCHS student, exit the lower parking lot and turn right onto 421. Turn right on S-Tree Tower Road and then the first right which is Powell Road. Follow directions for Morning Drop-Off for Tigers. Do not allow your Tigers to exit your car at the lower parking lot and walk up the stairs. Evening Parent Pick-Up Evening parent pick-up has not changed other than entering on Powell Road like in the morning. Parent pick-up at SGS will begin at 2:55 and end at 3:15 Jackson County Public Schools appreciates your cooperation and understanding as we make changes to improve the safety of our Tigers.

2024-2025 TRAFFIC FLOW CHANGES Due to ongoing construction at Jackson County Middle School, the traffic flow for buses and parent drop-off/pick-up has changed for the 24-25 school year until further notice. The diagram on the back of this sheet should help everyone understand and follow the new traffic flow. Parent Drop-Off Parent drop-off will begin each morning at 7:10. Drop-off cars should enter the parking lot through the entrance at the right of the school. JCMS students are to be dropped off at the crosswalk in front of the school entry doors. When your student leaves the car, please move forward and exit through the exit at the left of the building. Yield to all buses. There will be an early duty person on site to assist. Parent Pick-Up Parent pick-up will begin each afternoon at 3:10. Please pull forward to the end of the median so that all cars can exit the roadway. A staff member will be there to meet you with a radio to announce that your student needs to exit the building. Students will walk across the walkway and stay on the white painted line to go to the correct car. Please exit as soon as your student is in the car so that all cars can pull up. Please yield to any buses. Jackson County Public Schools appreciates your patience and cooperation as we begin the 24-25 school year.

JCMS Renovation Update! The Jackson County Board of Education is pleased with the progress that has been made so far to provide our JCMS students, staff, and community with a middle school campus to be proud of. We are committed to our vision and the journey. The following slides will show snapshots of the future JCMS for your to enjoy. Know that change does not happen overnight and that construction will not be completed until the 25-26 school year. That has always been the plan. When students arrive on August 8th, they will not see perfection, but a work in progress. We have taken every precaution and met every requirement needed to keep JCMS students safe while construction continues. We thank you in advance for your support and patience as we push forward to make the vision for JCMS a reality. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/e/2PACX-1vSvnfLXi70-SJKtG6DTupFrPCjivJCFWjr_60fLFp9okENoGWDJaxGYvghI7W16bhvLoIYKwIiUZyif/pub?start=true&loop=false&delayms=5000
